Hunger As I regained consciousness, I felt two things. The first of which was the comfort of my bed. The latter was hunger. “I must get some burritos, for I am so hungry!” I burst out, saying only what was on my mind. With that, I brushed my teeth. Only after washing my face was I really awake. I looked in the mirror, and I realized I was drooling. As if on cue, my stomach growled. “Oh, I must get myself some burritos,” I cried. I made my way downtown to my favourite eatery, Pablo's Mexican Restaurant. As soon as I walked in, I was hit with a wave of spices. Once again, my stomach growled. I gulped as I read the menu --- everything looked so good! As I read through the menu, something snapped. “Aieeeeee!” I howled, ravaging through the customers. “What are you doing?!” I heard Pablo scream. I paid no mind, however, as all I needed was food. Leaping across the tables with my tongue out, I made it to the front of Pablo's Mexican Restaurant. The aroma of spices only made me even hungrier. I growled and made my way into the kitchen. All the chefs have already evacuated. This was my domain now. I drank the hot sauce lined across the table. The corners of my mouth arced upwards. I moved on and sprayed pepper, cayenne, salt and paprika into my mouth. “Delicious!” Some freshly made tacos were just waiting for me on the counter. I could taste all the flavours. The cheese, the beef, the sour cream. It all got devoured by my hunger. Soon, I found myself face to face with the freezer. At this point, I was grinning ear to ear. I quickly pulled open the freezer door and devoured the raw, frozen meat. By the time I was finished, there was nothing left in the freezer. It wasn’t enough. It wasn’t enough. It wasn’t enough. It wasn’t enough. “Aieeeeee,” I howled once again. Then, I consumed the tablecloths and towels. It still wasn’t enough. Then, I started eating the tables. I was finished in no time. One by one they disappeared; the tables; the cabinets; the counters; even the very freezer itself. I burped. However, it still wasn’t enough. I started gnawing away at the walls, the tiles of the floor and the lights. I could hear a crowd forming outside of the restaurant. Soon, I found myself chewing at the very foundation of the eatery. The second floor collapsed on me. I can hear people screaming. I can also hear sirens in the distance. “Aieeeeee!” silence falls upon the crowd as I shriek. After being dazed for a moment, I quickly get back to eating. The rubble is gone after a short moment of time. I’ve completely lost myself. Nothing can sate my hunger. As I finish consuming the last few pieces of debris, I stare out into the city. The buildings, the people, everything… “Buen appetito.”
